I am a sculptor an artist and a doctor - an unusual combination.
Born and brought up in the Highlands of Scotland, I trained as a doctor in London, and then worked in Britain and Canada finally settling in Edinburgh. I stopped work to have children and to be a mother.
I then began figurative sculpture- training mainly under Vincent Butler RSA, RGI.
As a Doctor one is trained to truly observe the human body. This training is very helpful when working as a figurative sculptor. I try to make my sculpture look like the model - AS I SEE THAT PERSON. I see no need to distort. To me the human figure is beautiful and I believe that if I can capture what I see, then I will produce a reflection of that beauty in my work. How the model poses and how I see her tells a fascinating story which is seen in the sculpture without need of abstraction.
