My work consistently refers to the energy inherent in stillness of form and composition, a deep interest in the idea of an inner self or centre- sometimes literally represented by symbols such as lotus flowers, sometimes by ambiguous “windows” leading the viewer from outside to inside or vice versa. The placing of objects so that they are together as part of the whole but never touching enhances the sense of peaceful contemplation. These paintings are not intended to be lively or to contain movement. Even with vibrant colour and intense pattern, my own creativity comes from stillness and quiet, reflecting the attention away from clamour and constant external stimulus and to calm contemplation.
