Laura Homoky studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in June 2006 with a sell out degree show and a year of commissions. She subsequently opened Serendipity Art Studios, providing four spacious art studios and exhibiting space for a small group of Edinburgh based artists. As well as curating exhibitions with Serendipity Studios and providing private tuition, she has also exhibited with a variety of organisations and galleries throughout Scotland.
‘Drawing has been the predominant medium for my work for the past few years, with a continued desire to develop my subjects and ideas in painting.
My passion for nature has been my focus, with a particular interest in forests and gardens. I use animals and gardens as social and spiritual metaphors, creating landscapes that express my ideas of beauty and the vulnerability of nature, expressed through birds in captivity.
I am drawn to grand gardens where nature has been architecturally constructed, such as labyrinths, sculpted hedges and the contrasts of order and chaos that is often found when man and nature interact. In a similar fashion I play with space on the paper or canvas creating my own environments, it’s a search for the most idyllic place, a self constructed Eden.’
