I am currently in 2nd Year at ECA studying for my BA(Hons) Degree in Drawing & Painting & Sculpture.
Previously I had also studied part-time at Glasgow School of Art, The Visual Art Studio Tramway and have been awarded an HNC in Fine Art at the Glasgow Metropolitan College.
I have been involved with the Greenock Art Club exhibiting in the McLean Museum and have also exhibited in the Port Gallery in Leith which unfortunately closed due structural damage.
I approach my work in a very instinctive and spontaneous way within all subject matters, often working with an expressive use of colour and mark making. I am a firm believer that your first idea is often your strongest, and in many ways I apply this idea into my drawing and painting. When working, I am in a state where I am in control of the piece, constantly observing and analysing it’s aesthetic development until it holds a particular balance, mood or feeling.
My inspiration lies within the greatness of nature, in light, colour and the energy of all the elements whilst in constant change. I draw and paint directly on site, using my sketches to bring back the memories of that place and time. My final paintings are mostly produced in acrylics but I feel it is important to experiment and work with different mediums, as each can bring out a different side to your work.
