Ruth Addinall lives and works in Edinburgh. She started painting in the late 1980’s and her work is mainly oils on canvas, wood, board and paper. Generally figurative, her paintings are often quite stylised. Ruth also sculpts and teaches the piano.
‘I moved house a couple of years ago and have my first garden. This has led to a deepening interest in birds. Both their physical beauty and the beauty of their songs draw me. They are infinitely various once you start to look and they make wonderful subjects, whether painting from life or inventing, both of which I do. I like to think of them as symbols of the spirit too, with their gift of flight and their miraculous song.
